I’d like to give a home to a rescued animal
How it works
- Firstly, contact us via our online animal enquiries form or by phone on 01825 830444 to register your interest. A member of our staff will then take you through our registration form and ask for details such as the type of animal you’re looking for, as well as information about your home, lifestyle, and anyone you may share it with, including other pets.

- Not all of our animals are featured on our website. We suggest that you register with us as soon as you know you wish to adopt, even if you haven’t yet seen an animal on our website. Of course, if you have seen an animal that appeals to you, please do tell us when you register. Animals of all shapes and sizes regularly come into our care, and your application will be considered for any animals that match your requirements.
- Next, your application will be assessed by our animal care team, who will consider if we have the right match for you. If we believe we have, you will be offered an appointment to come in and meet us. At this point, usually before your appointment, we may need to conduct a home visit.

- When you come in to the Centre, a member of our team will be there to greet you, and will be available throughout your appointment to answer your questions or advise you. If you are hoping to adopt a cat, you will be shown to our cattery. If it’s a dog, the dogs will be brought to you in our Reception area, to avoid unnecessary disturbance and stress to the other dogs in our kennels. Other smaller animals such as our rabbits and guinea pigs will also usually be brought to the reception area.
- At your appointment with us, if you feel you have found the animal you are looking for and wish to adopt, and we agree the animal is a good match for you, we will complete all the appropriate adoption paperwork with you and agree with you the best time for you to take your new friend home.
- We do not sell animals, as we believe they are beyond a monetary value, so we do not charge a set fee for adoption. But when adopting, we do invite you to make a donation of your choice toward the care of other animals at the Centre. We are entirely dependent on donations to enable us to continue our work of rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming, and while we desperately need the funds, we do not view the rehoming of animals as part of our fundraising activities. Our motivation is to secure a loving and permanent home for that animal.
Please see our FAQs for further information, or call us on 01825 830444 for advice.

Frequently asked questions
Haven't found the answer you were looking for? Perhaps our FAQ's could help. If you're still needing help, please get in touch.
Firstly, telephone or call in to our Reception area, where one of our staff will be pleased to help you. Alternatively, complete the online animal enquiry form and we will contact you. Our staff will then take all your details, including what sort of animal you are looking for, and about your home, and family life. A senior member of our animal care team will then assess your application and try to match you with the right animal. If we feel we have a good match for you, we will get in touch with you and arrange an appointment. We may also at this stage wish to arrange a home visit from one of our home checkers.
You are welcome to visit our reception area between 10am and 4pm, but the Centre itself is not open to visitors, except by prior appointment when adopting an animal from us.
There are several reasons for this, but the main one is the stress and disruption that can be caused to the animals. While the animals are with us, we and they feel this is their home, and just as with pets in established homes, it can be distressing to have strangers walking around, particularly when many animals have suffered disruption and trauma before arriving at the Centre. When coming to the Centre by appointment, a member of our animal care staff will be there to offer you individual attention and to guide you through the process.
Its usually so busy on our phone lines, that calls are often routed to our answering service. If this happens, please do leave a short message with your name and telephone number and your reason for calling. We keep a daily record of all our calls, and we will get back to you as soon as we can. We aim to do this on the same day that you call, although this isn’t always possible.
When you register your details with us of the type of animal you are looking for, we don’t always have a suitable match for you at that time. And because we receive hundreds of calls each week, we aren’t able to call everyone to keep them updated. So we would ask that you call us from time to time, quoting the reference number we gave you when you first registered, to let us know if you are still looking for an animal, or if you have found one elsewhere.
Sometimes, when things get extremely busy, we aren’t able to update the website as much as we’d like to, though we do our best to keep it current. The animals shown are usually just some of those we have who are seeking homes. So please do call our reception on 01825 830444, or complete our animal enquiry form online to let us know what type of animal you are looking for, and we will take all your details. if you've left us an answerphone message, or used the online enquiry form, we'll contact you as soon as possible.
Call us or complete our online animal enquiry form to register your details, and let us know about the animal you are interested in. Your application will then be assessed by a senior member of our animal care team.
When coming to the Centre by appointment, a member of our animal care staff will be there to offer you individual attention and to guide you through the process. Our staff are familiar with the needs and history of each animal and will be able to advise you, and discuss with you whether any animals you are particularly interested in will be a suitable match.
We don’t have a rigid set of rules about who can adopt from us. What we aim to do is assess each potential home according to the animal being adopted and their particular needs. However, there are certain guidelines that we follow, such as not homing cats in houses on busy roads, or not putting animals into situations where they will be left alone for long periods of time.
You will be required to sign an adoption form which includes an agreement to have the animal spayed or neutered, if this hasn’t already been done, which sometimes happens due to age or health reasons. You will also be asked to agree to return the animal to The Trust if for any reason you are unable to keep it. Please remember, we are always happy to give advice if there are any problems following the adoption.
Please see our Adopt an Animal page, or contact us for more information.

Please call us straight away to discuss the problems, on 01825 830444. If we are unable to find a satisfactory solution and the animal needs to be returned, we ask that you give us a minimum of 24 hours notice to make accommodation arrangements, as our kennels and catteries are always full with urgent cases waiting to come in every day.
We would need to see written permission from your landlord, confirming their agreement. Its best to get this before applying to adopt.
